Margarita Efthymiou was born and raised in Athens. She discovered the Pilates Method in 2001 as a way to get back in shape after the birth of her third child. Thrilled with this method which combines perfectly control, alignment, strength and flexibility, she decided to study it in depth and to pursue a career in teaching it.
She has been teaching Pilates since 2004 and Gyrotonic since 2006.
It is her belief that movement and emotion are two sides of the same coin since both are controlled by the nervous system and thus every little thing we gain in movement will translate in our minds and spirit and can have a positive impact in our lives. She firmly believes that learning is not something that should ever stop, especially for a teacher.
"Every teacher should never cease to learn about their discipline, always enrich their knowledge. We must all move forward without ever forgetting how it was to be a beginner. This will keep us humble. Teachers should study about the human body, its movement, its anatomy. Follow an experienced teacher and learn from them. Make every lesson a new experience for ourselves as well as our clients. This way every teacher will always find inspiration, our students will get a better understanding of their bodies' needs and their interest will never fade. Besides, this is what we are trying to achieve here: for the students to get to know their bodies and become more independent in their practice but also continue to have a fruitful cooperation with their teacher."
She got her certification with Power Pilates N.Y. under the guidance of Eugenia Papadopoulou and Mr. Bob Liekens, Master Teacher who worked for years with Romana Kryzanowska. In 2013 she completed successfully Lolita's San Miguel PILATES MASTER MENTOR PROGRAM which earned her the title of Pilates Master and Second Generation Pilates Teacher. In July 2015 she completed Kathi Ross Nash's ADVANCED TEACHER TRAINING and continues to work and learn from her as well as other great teachers of the classical method like Blossom Leilani Crawford, Mejo Wiggin, Jay Grimes and Lori Coleman Brown.
